The first time he saw us, he smiled but that smile was not a happy smile. We could see the shine missing in his smile. He did not know why had we come and why were we meeting him. The first question I asked him was, "Will you go to school?" . He replied very sheepishly, "Yes!!!"
Though Abhishek was 11 years old, he had never been to a formal school. He spent most of his time at his father's stall or taking care of his three younger siblings. His mother never felt the need to teach him. It was not just the resource crunch that kept Abhishek out of school but also the ignorance of his parents. His parents din't understand the importance of education.
Attending our classes gave him the hope that a change is possible. We saw that he was a very quick-learner and hungry to learn more. We got him admitted to school so that his talent didn't go waste. Abhishek is now one of the brightest and naughtiest students in his class. He enjoys studying and dreams of becoming a police officer. The entire team of Sarthak wants to make his dream come true.
Abhishek is one of the very few children who come from an under-privileged background and are able to have access to quality education. Most of them don't even dream to become anything because they believe it will never come true.
